2014-2015 School Year |
New Member Induction and Senior Recognition
This year 29 members were inducted into our NHS chapter. Our induction ceremony consisted of lighting the candle of knowledge and hearing from our officers and advisor. Afterwards, everybody celebrated with cookies and cake.
Feed My Starving Children (2nd Trip)
We once again visited the packing facility in the Spring. This time we broke our record from last time. On this occasion, we fed103 children for one year!
Las Posadas
Our second fundraiser of the year consisted of selling tacos, tamales, and ponche at our district's annual Posada event. Most of the food was donated by El Paso Grande. The fundraiser was extremely successful and fun to work.
Day of Sacrifice
NHS members participated in the annual Day of Sacrifice on December 7th. This event raises money to build dormitories for students who have to travel long distances to get to and from school in Africa. In addition to walking, members also sold hot chocolate and baked goods. The money raised will go towards an NHS-sponsored service project in the community.
Feed My Starving Children
NHS members volunteered their Saturday afternoon to pack food at a food packing organization. Feed My Starving Children sends food to numerous countries in need around the world. NHS members and other volunteers packed a total of 159 boxes, 34,344 meals... enough to feed 94 kids for a WHOLE year!
Math Textbook Collection
Since our whole math department moved to using CPM, the textbooks we had before are no longer in use. We collected these textbooks from classrooms around the school. We organized them, counted them, and loaded them onto a truck. These books were sent to an organization who provides used textbooks for schools in need.
